Julie James-Turner
I am an artist and art educator and trained as an Art Therapist after my BA in Fine Art. I also have a PGCE and an MA in Textiles.
Within my art practice, process and making are very important, but my inspirations are always concept led. I use a range of textile materials that are appropriate to the ideas I am exploring at a given time and I interpret using traditional techniques and contemporary technologies.
My work is frequently around ideas of the diverseness of female identity drawing from both an individual and a collective perspective. I often use a garment as a vehicle for expression to evoke a powerful emotive response and imply a narrative. A garment leaves a trace or memory of the wearer behind, a shed skin.
